Images of Nirvana bring up thoughts of something heavenlike and beyond our wildest dreams. Stephen Batchlor who is one of the leaders of our journey gave a talk yesterday about the Buddha's meaning of Nirvana. Stephen who has studied the earliest known texts of teachings of The Buddha, says that the true meaning of Nirvana is the absence of Greed, Hate and Confusion; that the freedom from acting on these feelings is Nirvana .
We are in Mandaly today, the historic capital of Burma which was almost completely destroyed in WWII . We will visit some historic abandoned nearby towns today and a Buddhist nunnery. We will travel to a ferry and then horse drawn carts to some of these sites.
