Today we toured small towns around Lake InLe all day zipping around on these skinny long boats with big engines. The weather here has been nice; in the mid 70's and I'm sitting enjoying the sunset on the deck. I can't name all the towns we visited by boat, but the second one had Buddhist ruins from about 1,600 AD. They have started rebuilding some of them. This area was closed to tourists until 1998 but seems to be getting some now with resort inns on the lake. Of all the places I've visited, this one seems the most unusual and maybe exotic. Many of the locals are still living traditionally unaffected by events outside their town. It's maybe the experience I was hoping for; something authentic. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of street vendors for tourist areas, but you get just outside of them and it's like your in a time lapse. Very happy to be here and enjoying the experience of both spirituality and a chance to be in this historic culture.
